The Wherry Hotel, Oulton Broad

My friend Jo has this now but it hung in my lounge for ages.

  1. Beautiful work. I can only admire it because I have never done anything like it. Do you sketch this out then paint it, or do you use a method of transfer to start out. Many famous painters I know transfer the images on the paper then paint. The talent is in the painting and mixing of colors.

  2. I took a photograph of the scene but then drew a sketch leaving out many boats, onto tracing paper to simplify it. Then I left the design hanging up; so I could view it for a while to see if it needed more added. Then I pencil traced it onto the canvas, and painted it with acrylic paint - great for covering up your mistakes. I signed the left blue boat name as EW06 as I painted it in 2006. Steve, my husband, was sad when I gave it away so I may have to do another version. I still have the tracing design. Mind you I recently had lunch in the Wherry Hotel and the scene looking out across the water would make a good picture. I must return a take a photo, the day I visited the water was grey in colour and the sky also so not ideal. Try Loree you never know you may surprise yourself and be very good at painting.
